Local Scholarship Program

The goal of this program is to support development in Egypt through creating a cadre of change agents, future leaders and problem solvers around development challenges in Egypt with an understanding, experience and appreciation of development and democratic processes and values.

This will

be achieved by providing participants with high quality undergraduate education, skills and knowledge to participate actively and responsibly in their society.

Specifically, the program should provide full tuition awards for a minimum of 600 scholarships total (Applicants are not required to submit an application for all 600 scholarships since USAID plans to make at least two awards).

Students will be provided the opportunity to study at a non-public university or one of the reputable fee based/credit hours sections at public universities.

Applicants will also explore the possibility of providing scholarship opportunities at quality public not for profit universities.

Students will be expected to complete their undergraduate degree within four years (if English language training is not required) or five years if the student requires English language training.

For those students pursing degrees in disciplines such as Engineering, which require five years to complete, students will be provided five to six years depending on their English language skills.

All students should complete their degrees within the eight-year time frame of this program.

The eight years are intended to allow three cohorts of students to finish their undergraduate studies.Applicants are encouraged to promote gender balance and geographic diversity in the distribution of the scholarships.

However, there need not be the same number of scholarships awarded to each governorate, especially if financially needy students are not identified in those governorates.
