Supplemental Public Sector Training Grants – FY 2018

The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), through this competitive grant opportunity, is requesting applications from national nonprofit fire service organizations for Supplemental Public Sector Training (SPST) grant funds.

The foundation of the SPST Grants Program

is a “train-the-trainer” model.

The intent of the grant is to train hazmat instructors who will then train public-sector hazmat responders.

Properly planned and maintained training programs are essential to ensuring that emergency responders who receive training under the grant will have the ability to protect nearby persons, property, and the environment from the effects of accidents or incidents involving the transportation of hazardous material in accordance with existing regulations or National Fire Protection standards for competence of responders to accidents and incidents involving hazardous materials.

Additional Information of Eligibility:
The SPST grant program is open to national nonprofit fire service organizations for the purpose of training instructors to conduct hazardous materials response training programs for individuals with statutory responsibility to respond to hazardous materials accidents and incidents; and to train individuals with responsibility to respond to accidents and incidents involving hazardous material, as allowed for under §5116(i)(6).
