Veterans Housing Rehabilitation and Modification Pilot Program

A number of America’s low-income veterans with disabilities are in need of adaptive housing to help them regain or maintain their independence.

In partnership with the U.

S.

Department of Veterans Affairs, the U.

S.

Department of Housing and Urban Development

intends to address these challenges in accordance with the Carl Levin and Howard P.

“Buck” McKeon National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2015 (Public Law 113-291, enacted December 19, 2014) by awarding competitive grants to nonprofit organizations that provide nationwide or statewide programs that primarily serve veterans or low-income individuals.

The grants may be used to modify or rehabilitate eligible veterans’ primary residences or to provide grantees’ affiliates with technical, administrative, and training support in connection with those services.

For FY 2020, HUD will award up to $9,445,980 to nonprofit organizations that provide nationwide or statewide programs that primarily serve veterans or low-income individuals.

Grants will be competitively awarded up to $1 million each to selected applicants.

Additional Information of Eligibility:
To be eligible for the VHRMP each applicant must meet both of the following criteria: (1) The organization must be described in section 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(19) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (26 U.S.C.

501(c)(3) or 501(c)(19)) and exempt from tax under section 501(a) of such Code (26 U.S.C.

501(a)); and (2) The organization must provide nationwide or statewide programs that primarily serve veterans or low-income individuals.

Individuals, foreign entities, and sole proprietorship organizations are not eligible to compete for, or receive, awards made under this announcement.
